The mattress was supposed to be a Japanese shiki futon--4 inches, 100% cotton. The mattress that arrived is a Wolf Futon, which is 5 inches thick, and only 55% cotton. That type of mattress can be bought for around $100 online. I called the company and left a message, and I'm waiting for a return phone call. Overall, I think I was ripped off, and there's nothing traditional or Japanese about this 5 inch futon mattress, which you can buy anywhere. Even if I can't return it, I guess I can still use it, but it's not what I ordered, and I paid triple of what I should have.

Despite other reports, I certainly had no problems with this vendor or this product. Delivery was fast. The mattress went on a traditional tatami platform bed in the meditation/guest room. Appears to be high quality, and all who have tried it find it extremely comfortable.

I like a firm matteress and this is listed as firm in the product description. However,beware--- this product is VERY firm. The cotton does little to conform to your body contours. I wanted very little conformation but nearly no allowance as this is is not at all comfortable. If your a side sleeper- think twice. If you sleep primarily on your back, this might work well for you. That said, make sure you want a FIRM matteress before clicking on Buy. J Life will not authorize a return once the shikibuton has been unpackaged. $350 is a lot to gamble, and I've learned the hard way. I will no longer support Amazon for allowing this Vendor to get away with their unfathomable no return policy. Lesson learned. Goodbye Amazon.
